Vocabulary is the basis of language and English vocabulary is an important part of English language learning.How to make students interested in vocabulary learning and learn vocabulary more effectively is an essential subject in English vocabulary teaching in primary schools.Researches show that there are many problems in the current English vocabulary teaching in primary schools,which can easily lead to a single and boring way to teach vocabulary and cannot arouse students’ interest in vocabulary learning.Creating situations in English teaching is considered an effective way to stimulate students’ learning.In this research,the researcher does an action research by applying the situational teaching method into English vocabulary teaching.The research aims to explore two research questions:1.What effects does the Situational Teaching Method have on students’ vocabulary learning?2.What effects does the Situational Teaching Method have on teachers’ vocabulary teaching?In this research,two round action researches were conducted.The teacher is graduated from the university in 2016 and has taught English in primary school for nearly four years.41 students from Class 3,Grade 4 in a primary school in Shenyang are also selected as the subjects in the research for one year.Each round of action research contains steps to identify problems,design action plans,implement actionplans,and evaluate and reflect.Before the first-round research,the researcher found some problems in English vocabulary teaching through pre-test and classroom observation and tried to apply Situational Teaching Method to the classroom.The researcher used different situations to teach vocabulary.After the first round of action research was completed,the researcher adjusted the action plan and conducted the second round of action research based on the findings and issues found.The researcher assessed the results of tests,interviews and teachers’ reflective journals.The results show that Situational Teaching Method is effective and feasible in primary school English vocabulary teaching,and has a positive effect on students’ learning attitude,learning effect and learning method.In this way,the classroom becomes more active and students gradually pick up their interest and confidence in learning English vocabulary.Their vocabulary learning ability gradually increases.And teacher’s own abilities have also been improved.The teacher has made progress in classroom management and teaching design.The teacher can better choose activities suitable for teaching and can effectively organize teaching.
