| Shuntian Times,a Chinese newspaper, was founded by Japanese in modem time and had a great influence on the Chinese people and public opinion. At present,it was rather weak for the academic circles to research on the newspaper and its attitude towards historical events in the same period. The 1920s was an era of dramatic changes in relations between China and the Soviet Union.By examining the views and attitudes of the Shuntian Times on relations between China and the Soviet Union during this period,we can reveal the evolutionary trends and causes of relations between China and the Soviet Union during this period.Maintaining and expanding Japan’s interests in China was the primal purpose of the Shuntian Times, and highlighting public opinion became an important public opinion tendency of the newspaper in the 1920s.Although Shuntian Times was full of doubts about the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Soviet Union in 1924,it still claimed that the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and China had more advantages than disadvantages.Shuntian Times fully attacked the Soviet Union’s support and assistance to the national revolution launched by the two parties, and attacked the Soviet Union’s "redemption" conspiracy against China.Shuntian Times paid great attention to the deterioration of relations between China and the Soviet Union caused by the Kuomintang anti-communism in 1927.Its basic attitude was to attack the Soviet Union and criticize the Soviet Union’s policy for China to safeguard and expand Japan’s interests in China. In the Middle East Road incident of 1929,Shuntian Times proceeded from safeguarding Japan’s interests in the Middle East Road and called on China-Sudan friendly negotiations to resolve disputes and oppose the war between China and the Soviet Union. |
