A Consecutive Interpreting Practice Report Of Foreign Affairs Conference Under The Guidance Of The Interpretive Theory

The Interpretive Theory is the first systematic interpretation theory in the international interpretation field,which has great influence on the study,practice and teaching of interpretation in China.2018 is the 40th anniversary of Reform and Opening-up in China,many provinces and cities have strengthened international and regional exchanges in different degree.And as a special field of interpretation,the interpretation of foreign affairs has attracted more and more attention of people.Foreign affairs interpreters,as a bridge of communication between the governments of countries with different languages,play an indispensable role in foreign affairs activities.This paper is a translation practice report,which is based on the Interpretive Theory.The author analyses the corpus accumulated in the real conference interpretation practice of the symposium between the media delegation of Sarawak state,Malaysia and the Leaders of Wuhan in September 2018 during the author’s internship of the Wuhan Foreign Affairs Office.Through a comprehensive review of the whole process of this interpretation practice,the audio recordings of this interpretation practice were transcribed into scripts,and some typical interpretation examples were selected from the corpus of this foreign affairs interpretation practice for analysis.Based on the core contents of the Interpretive Theory,this paper explains how to apply the corresponding interpretation strategies in the three stages of "comprehension","deverbalization" and "reformulation" of meaning by comparing the source language with the target language.Through the analysis of the mistakes and inappropriateness caused by the author’s failure to accurately understand the original meaning of the speech or realize the "deverbalizaion" of the source language,the author describes the interpretation strategies and problems in the practical process.Finally,combining the characteristics of foreign affairs conference interpretation,this paper summarizes the translation difficulties found in the practice.This paper adopts the method of combining the theory and practice,from the perspective of the author’s own interpretation practice,tries to summarize the common problems in foreign affairs interpretation and the interpretation strategies that can be applied under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory.It not only demonstrates the guiding role of the Interpretive Theory in conference interpretation of foreign affairs activities,but also provides solutions to the common problems in foreign affairs interpretation.By exploring and studying the common problems that interpreting learners may encounter in foreign affairs interpreting practice,the author hopes to find interpretation methods and strategies that can be used for reference by interpreters and learners,so as to provide references for future interpreting practice and practice.At the same time,it is expected to play an auxiliary role in the on-site language service of official foreign affairs meetings,and help interpreters better deal with these difficulties in the interpreting process of foreign affairs meetings,so as to improve the accuracy and comprehensibility of interpretation.
