"Production-oriented approach"(POA)was proposed to overcome the issue of"separation between learning and using" in college foreign language teaching and to improve teaching efficiency. So far studies of POA mainly focus on writing instead of speaking, and emphasize its teaching model exploration. However, very limited studies explored the effectiveness of POA from the perspective of learning motivation, although some researches suggests that POA can stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm and change their attitude toward English learning. So this study aims to solve the following questions:1.Can college students’ oral English learning motivation be strengthened by POA?If yes,in which aspects?2.In which aspects does POA influence the students’ oral proficiency?3.Is there any correlation between students’ oral proficiency and their English learning motivation through POA teaching? The experiment lasts for 10 weeks,in which 62 sophomores of two parallel classes are chosen as subjects.POA is applied in EC while a traditional method is used in CC.Meanwhile, motivation questionnaires as well as oral tests are used to collect data which are analyzed with SPSS 21.0.The research revealed that POA can effectively stimulate students’ oral English learning motivation, especially the instrumental motivation and situational motivation.Considering oral proficiency,POA is superior in developing students’ oral fluency. What’s more, the development of students’ oral proficiency is closely related to their oral English learning motivation according to correlation analysis. In the end, this paper has introspection on the problems and difficulties arisen in the experimental process, hoping to provide some suggestions and implications for future researches.
