In China, there are tens of thousands of people learning English or other foreign languages every day,and the time and efforts spent on foreign language learning are rare in the whole world education field. However,in the process of learning a foreign language, technical or intellectual problems are common, but at the same time, there are also many difficulties caused by psychological reasons. Many college students are afraid of foreign language learning, taking foreign language classes and afraid of communicating with others in foreign language. All kinds of phenomena are typical features of foreign language anxiety.Foreign language anxiety is one of the important emotional factors affecting foreign language learning, which refers to the fear or anxiety of learners when using or expressing the target language. It is one of the most critical psychological variables among many emotional factors affecting foreign language learning, and has been proved by many studies to have a significant negative correlation with the learning effect. The advent of “production-oriented approach”(POA)has attracted wide attention of many scholars, and the publication of related articles and periodicals is increasing significantly. This theory aims to overcome the disadvantages of “separation of learning and use,low efficiency”in foreign language teaching in China, and advocates“ integration of learning and use” and“doing things in foreign languages”.It takes output activities such as speaking, writing, and translation as the driving means and teaching objectives and input activities such as reading and listening as its facilitating means(Wen 2015).The purpose of this study is to explore whether POA teaching method can alleviate the anxiety of non-English majors in oral English and the way to use POA teaching method reasonably in teaching process to alleviate the anxiety of non-English majors in oral English. In this study, quantitative and qualitative methods are adopted. The quantitative research mainly adopts experimental research, and tests “the Oral English Anxiety Scale”twice before and after the experiment,in order to find out whether POA has a positive effect on relieving oral English anxiety of non-English majors. The qualitative research involves interview method, which aims to understand students’ acceptance of POA teaching, whether they think POA is more conducive to oral output and discuss the problems in the teaching process. We can know that POA teaching method has played a positive role in alleviating oral anxiety of non-English majors from the research.Through the interview,we know that students’ acceptance of POA teaching method is relatively high, and students think that POA really contributes to the quality of spoken English production, helps to reduce the anxiety of spoken English, and produce the target language more smoothly.
