| Shuowen Jiezi Zhu which is Duan Yucai’s representative work in Qing Dynasty,centrally reflected his ideas about Chinese language’s diachronic evolution.This paper adopts the methods of combining general overview with case study from three perspectives of "Ancient and Modern Characters"(古今字),"Ancient and Moden Words"(古今韶)and "Ancient and Modern Meanings"(古今义).This paper includes four chapters-The first chapter mainly introduces the current research situation.The second chapter is mainly talking about"Ancient and Modern Characters" which are emphasize that the same word is written in different forms from ancient to modern times.We choose the diachronic evolution of characters expressing the word "xie"(衺)as a case study in this chapter.Previous studies and many unearthed documents show the fact that people have used"邪"in the end of the Warring States Period.At the latest in the Northern and Southern Dynasties"斜"has been used.And“斜”was mainly used to indicate the meaning of skewed,but "邪"was also can be used to express the meaning of dishonesty.The third chapter is mainly talking about"Ancient and Modern Words" which refer to the same object,but different words are used in ancient and modern times.We analyse when "song"(送)has made up the conceptual domain of wgiving presents" as a case study in this chapter.And the study shows latest to the Northern and Southern Dynasties "song" has made up the conceptual domain of "giving presents".The forth chapter is mainly talking about"Ancient and Modern Meanings" which drive at that the meaning of the same word is different from that of the past and the present We investigate the development of "jiang"(僵)’s meaning as a case study in this chapter.The original meaning of "jiang" was"yan"(偃).During the Wei,Jin,Southern and Northern Dynasties,a new meaning of "budong"(不勤)and "buxiu"(不(?))has been developed.The memning of "buxiu"(不巧)likely came directly from "yan"(偃).The generation of the meaning of "budong"(不动)was probably related to"jiang"(强). |
