| The higher education system is accelerating its pace in integrating into and serving for the "One Belt,One Road" initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi.More and more information is obtained in international languages while the traditional reading models are unable to meet the needs of efficient reading.In such circumstance,English reading strategies training has been one of the effective ways to improve reading proficiency.However,the theological research on strategies training still remains in its primary stage.Besides,domestic research subjects are commonly focused on Han students,seldom on minority college students.The study on English reading strategies training is worthy of manipulation since minority college students are active participants in the process of English reading teaching with the gradual emphasis on linguistic education for them.This study mainly employs action research integrated with quantitative and qualitative methods to carry out the reading strategies training,aiming at probing into the answers to the research questions as follows:1.What is the current situation of minority college students’ English reading?And what changes have been made on the status quo of minority college students’ English reading after three rounds of action research?2.What is the impact of the three rounds of action research on the cultivation of the awareness of English reading strategies of minority college students?3.Do the three rounds of action research have any influence on minority college students’ English reading proficiency? And if any,how do they affect minority college students’ English reading proficiency?Research subjects are 53 sophomore majoring in Accounting at School of Fortune Management from Nanchang Institute of Science and Technology.All the students belong to ethnic minorities,who have received preparatory education and are of the similar ages(between 19-23 years old)and have acquired the similar reading proficiency to passing the PETS-2 before the experiment.This study adopted the questionnaire,which was modified based on SILL(Oxford,1990)and LASSI(Weinstein,1987)to testify students’ English learning conditions.It also took the reading comprehension tests of CET-4 in 2016 and 2017 as the standard material to test the changes of students’ reading proficiency.Moreover,students were interviewedbefore,during and after the training.With the tests,questionnaires and interviews prior to the experiment,the researcher attains to evaluate the awareness of English reading strategies and reading proficiency to make the action research feasible.The study aims at improving students’ reading proficiency by the means of the cultivation of reading strategies awareness and the enhancement of reading strategies use in class.According to the evaluation results,the researcher then formulates the first two rounds of action research,which are combined with authentic English reading materials.Then based on the problems in the first two rounds of action research and the purpose of helping students apply specific reading strategies,the third round of action research increased the exercise intensity of strategies training,as well as reviewed and supplemented knowledge on reading strategies that had ever been acquired in a timely manner.After the experiment,the groups of data were compared to verify the effectiveness of three rounds of action research in increasing students’ strategies awareness and reading level.Combined with the results of classroom observation and interviews,the researcher further verified the effectiveness of strategies training and made reflections on strategies training process.Main findings were as follows: the majority of minority students kept a low rate of strategies usage and lacked awareness of strategies application;English reading strategies had impact on English reading and learning;Reading strategies training had effects on stimulating students’ awareness of strategies application and improving reading efficiency and proficiency.Consequently,the strategies training was of significance.So during the process of English teaching towards minority college students,the cultivation of strategies awareness and the application of reading strategies should be noticed but not be ignored. |
