Eye Movement Research On The Distraction Of Ideal Body Shape

With the development of social culture,young people are now more and more concerned about their appearance and body shape.People also value each other’s body when choosing a partner.The male figure and the thin figure are the ideal body shape widely accepted by the public.However,when people choose their spouses,the research results on the requirements of the opposite sex are controversial.Considering Darwin’s theory of evolutionary psychology,men may prefer body shape(muscle)to women’s body shape when choosing a spouse.In daily life,as people pay more and more attention to their body shape management,weight loss has become the mantra of many people.People lose weight,diet,and pursue the ideal body shape in order to achieve the ideal body shape,which leads to many young people’s experiences.There is physical dissatisfaction in the comparison of the upward society.Experiment 1 is to explore the attention bias of different gender students on different body shapes,using 2(participant gender: male,female)× 2(picture gender: male,female)× 4(body shape: thin,normal,muscle and fat)The factor hybrid design uses the Eyelink1000 plus eye tracker to record the eye movement patterns and selection preferences of male and female college students for different genders and different body shapes.The experimental results show that in the button selection preference,regardless of whether the picture gender is male or female,the subjects choose the most body shape,followed by the normal body shape;in the eye movement mode,the gaze time for the normal body shape is longer,the second time.The gaze time was longer,the number of gaze was more,and the pupil diameter changed more;there was no significant difference in body satisfaction between male and female subjects before and after the experiment.This shows that both male and female college students show more preference for normal or lean body shape,which is in line with the current popular aesthetic standards.In the second experiment,in order to explore the different body dissatisfaction(BD)level of male and female college students to pay attention to different body shape,use 2(participant gender: male,female)× 2(picture gender: male,female)× 2(BD level: high,Low)× 4(body shape: thin,normal,muscle and fat)multi-factor hybrid design,using Eyelink1000 plus eye tracker and questionnaire to explore the attentional bias of male and female subjects with different body dissatisfaction levels Its inherent behavioral mechanism.The results of the experiment showed that the male and female subjects with high BD showed more attention bias to the ideal body shape than the male and female subjects with low BD(longer gaze time,longer second gaze time,more gaze times,pupil diameter change)Larger;the physical satisfaction of male and female subjects after the experiment was significantly reduced.This indicates that the high BD subjects are more likely to notice the ideal body shape than the low BD subjects,and are more likely to be negatively influenced by the comparison of the upward society.The long-term viewing of the ideal figure image will reduce the body satisfaction of the subjects.In the first experiment,it was inferred that the ideal body shape of the male and female subjects’ respective preferences was based on the attention bias of ordinary male and female subjects watching different body images.On the basis of experiment 1,experiment 2 selects special subjects(body dissatisfaction level: high and low),adopts an experimental paradigm different from experiment one,and judges the ideal body shape of male and female subjects by button selection,and Attention to the ideal body shape.Through two experiments,the difference in the choice of ideal body shape between the subjects with different body satisfaction can be compared and whether the special subjects showed more attention bias to the ideal body shape than the normal subjects.In summary,it is concluded that both men and women prefer normal or lean body shape and show a bias toward their preferred body shape;high BD level group is relative to low level group for the same type of ideal body shape(female: normal Slim;male: Muscle)shows attention bias;short-term viewing of ideal figure pictures has no obvious changes in individual body satisfaction and mood;long-term viewing of ideal figure pictures has significant changes in individual body satisfaction.
