Interpersonal trust is an individual’s general sense of trust in others, and it is a relatively stable psychological tendency. In interpersonal communication, interpersonal trust is an individual’s judgment and expectation of others’ credibility,as well as the grasp of others’ sincerity, ability and the perceived degree of goodwill.Return is a ubiquitous phenomenon of interpersonal communication, which requires people to treat others in a similar way in their interpersonal relationships.Facial expression refers to the expression of various emotional states through changes in the muscles of the eyes, face and mouth. In daily life, everyone expresses their emotional state or behavioral tendency through changes in their facial expressions. Some studies have found that reward has an impact on individual’s interpersonal trust, and individuals who give trust but don’t get reward will have negative emotional experience.Facial expression,as a signal of social support, can reduce the negative emotions of individuals.Whether facial expression can regulate the relationship between reward and interpersonal trust, and whether it will affect interpersonal trust when individuals give trust but not get reward.Based on this, the study designed two experiments with college students as subjects. In experiment 1,we used the experimental paradigm of trust game to study the effect of return on interpersonal trust. In experiment 2,we used the experimental paradigm of individuals’ willingness to volunteer activities to verify the effect of return on interpersonal trust again, and added the variable of facial expression to investigate the effect of facial expression on return and interpersonal trust. The conclusions are as follows:(1)Return or not return has an effect on the individual’s interpersonal trust. And there is a significant difference in the individual’s interpersonal trust between the reward group and the non-reward group.(2)Interpersonal trust of individuals in the returning group was higher than that in the no returning group.(3)Facial expression plays a moderating role between return and interpersonaltrust.Under different facial expressions, the effects of return and no return on interpersonal trust are different.Positive facial expression enhances interpersonal trust.Neutral facial expression has no significant effect on interpersonal trust.
