| This paper is a report on the practice of English-Chinese translation.The original text is the novel A Death in the Family by American novelist James Agee.This autobiographical novel tells us a story about the accidental death of a father in Knoxville,Tennessee,at the beginning of the 20 th century.The author observes the influence of this event on the people around him from a child’s perspective.The two most prominent features of autobiographical novels are authenticity and literability.In the process of autobiographical novel translation,it is necessary to select an appropriate translation strategy according to its characteristics.Therefore,in this report,in view of the problems encountered in the process of practice,the author uses Newmark’s communicative translation as a guide to improve the initial translation,in order to convey the literary characteristics and significance of the original text.This translation practice report consists of five parts.The first part is an overview of the task,which introduces the background,significance and structure of the translation practice.The second part describes the translation process,including pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation proofreading.The third part introduces the text features of autobiographical novels,communicative translation theory and the application of communicative translation theory in the translation of autobiographical novels.The fourth part is the key part of this practice report.The author uses communicative translation theory to analyze the selected cases from the lexical level and the sentence level.Under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the translator should pay attention to the idiomatic fluency of the translation,strive to accurately clarify the meaning of the original text,and leave no obscure and suspicious points for readers.The last part is the summary of the translation practice report.Through the analysis of this practice report,the author hopes to provide references for the writers of other autobiographical texts. |
