In contrast sociolinguistic studies abroad, domestic researches started much later.Hence, the lack of sociolinguistic reference books has brought about difficulties for readers to fully comprehend the core conceptions and the evolution of sociolinguistics. An Introduction to Sociolinguistics, the third edition, written Ronald Wardhaugh was assigned by my supervisor to translate into Chinese. This report was on the translation from the 61~stt to 116~thh pages on discussing pidgin and creole, code choice, terminologies, etc. This linguistic monograph is abundant with linguistic terminologies, the translation of which focused on possible ways of rendering acceptable texts to Chinese readers. To reach that aim, this translator chose the Skopos Theory to guide throughout the translation process, supplemented by communicative and semantic translation skills. This report presented reflections of this translator on the applications of translation skills in the translation process at the lexical, syntactic, discoursal and cultural levels. This translation is of practical significance. It could satisfy the demands of Chinese readers on understanding better sociolinguistic knowledge, but also provide references for Chinese scholars to compare the applications of translation skills. Moreover, the combination of theory with practice in this report was a good opportunity for this translator to continue to improve her level of translation.Due to the complexities in translating from one language to another, misunderstandings and/or mistranslations are unavoidable. It is hoped that more efforts should be made to effectively apply translation skills in the future practices.
