As the beginning of the field of cognitive science, standard cognitive science regards the mind as a kind of representation of meaning, and the computational program that can perform formal operations on meaningless symbols on the basis of computer metaphor hypothesis. However,as a new wave of research on mentality in recent years, embodied cognition advocates that the mind should be a "living mind",which should be linked to the body of the organism and the world in which it exists.Based on the interdisciplinary empirical research of cognitive science,Shapiro not only analyzes the theoretical and methodological problems in the approach of embodied cognition, gives embodied cognition a pertinent evaluation, but also deeply discusses various disagreements and arguments which exist in the field of embodied cognition. The article is divided into five parts. The first part mainly introduces the research background of this paper, and sorts out the relevant literature of Shapiro's embodied cognition theory. The second part begins with a brief introduction to the research approach of cognition, which is educed Shapiro's cognitive view.Shapiro's cognitive thinking is based on the discussion of conceptualization hypothesis, replacement hypothesis and constitution hypothesis, and clearly demonstrates the theory and methodology of embodied cognition from these three dimensions. The third part will firstly presents Shapiro's analysis of standard cognitive science, and then introduces Shapiro's view on the relationship between the three hypothesis and standard cognitive science. In the fourth part, the text introduces a controversial issue from replacement hypothesis and constitution hypothesis to study the arguments of Shapiro and other scholars, and to demonstrate the superiority of Shapiro's theory. The last part is the conclusion.
