This paper explores the interaction characteristics of Vietnamese students’ elementary Chinese classroom through ethnographic classroom observation research methods.The relationship between interaction and language identity and cultural identity influences the cross-cultural communication tendency of Vietnamese students.First of all,the author selects the contents related to the interaction of Vietnamese students’ speech acts from the eight-course corpus observed in the classroom,including responding to teachers’ questions,responding to teachers’ corrective feedback,actively asking questions,taking the initiative to speak,communicating wth other students,to carry out statistics,classification,analysis and summarization of the characteristics of Vietnamese students’ participation in classroom interaction.Secondly,this paper tries to explain and analyze the characteristics of Vietnamese students’ classroom interaction from the perspective of language identification and cultural identity;Thirdly,this paper aims to interpret and analyze the cross-cultural communication tendency of Vietnamese students with values from the sense of self-ethnicity,especially national character.The main findings of this study are:1.The students in primary Chinese classroom of Vietnamese actively participate in teacher-student interaction;2.In terms of interaction between students and students,they rely on interaction with Vietnamese companions and rarely interact with students from other countries.3.The platform of classroom interaction develops dual recognition of language and culture,meanwhile this process of language and cultural identity promotes Vietnamese students to actively participate in classroom interaction;4.Vietnamese students’ primary Chinese classroom interaction shows strong self-ethnic meaning;5.Vietnamese students Strong self-ethnic awareness,especially national character traits and values directly affect their cross-cultural communication tendency:the unity and mutual assistance between Vietnamese companions help them to participate in classroom interaction.And their attitude to teacher is very opnen,while they show a comparatively clesed attitude to students from other countries.In short,the characteristics of Vietnamese students’ elementary Chinese classroom interaction are closely related to the cultural background.Firstly,there is a mutual influence and interaction between the Chinese and Vietnamese cultures and the participation in the classroom interaction.Secondly,the self-ethnic consciousness dominates the Vietnamese students.Vietnamese companions and different interactions between teachers and other ethnic groups have different attitudes,and the importance of cultural factors to language learning is obvious.
