This report is a translation report based on the present author’s translation of a psychological thriller— Let Me Lie,by the British contemporary novelist Clare Mackintosh. The text analyzed in this report is Mackintosh’s third psychological thriller published by Little,Brown Book Group in March 2018 in Britain. No Chinese version has been published in the mainland of China at present. The translation project is entrusted by Sichuan Trans-bird Culture Communication Co.,Ltd and the translated text is to be published by Sichuan People’s Publishing House. The novel features multiple narrative point of view.Narrative point of view,a heated topic in narratology,is a vital narrative technique in modern novels that refers to the angle the narrator takes to observe the story. So it is of great importance to transfer narrative point of view during translation, otherwise Deceptive Equivalence at the level of narrative discourse will be caused— in translation practice, the focus is placed on building equivalence between fictional facts while the beauty of the original’s form is neglected. In order to avoid Deceptive Equivalence, the translator strives to represent both the novel’s content and its form during translation, namely the employment of narrative point of view. Therefore, the report takes Shen Dan’s classification of narrative point of view as the guiding theory to classify narrative point of view in source text. Then focus is put on exploring the transference of the following three ones in the novel: the first-person internal point of view, the third-person fixed internal point of view and the first-person external point of view.Comparative study and case study are employed in this report to discuss the following two translation questions: 1.How to transfer narrative point of view in perception facet;2 How to transfer narrative point of view in psychological facet. It is found that these two facets can be cultivated at three levels. At the lexical level, words indicating tense, person and direction are given main focus.Amplification is adopted to translate words indicating tense.Omission is adopted to deal with recurrent words such as personal pronouns. At the syntactic level, literal translation is adopted to translate sentences revealing the order of characters’ visual and auditory movement and ensure the character stands at the perception center. At the level of discourse, literal translation is used to preserve the original sentence structure, hence preserving the characters’ mental state it reflects. So the Deceptive Equivalence can be avoided to a certain extent. Also,Clare Mackintosh is a new name in British literary circle. So there exist relatively few researches about the translation of her work domestically. It is hoped that the report will shed some light on translation practice about her work.
