Debussy was a representative of the Impressionist School of Music in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His twenty-four piano Prelude drew on the creative ideas of Impressionist paintings at that time and integrated visual effects and landscapes into the works, fully reflecting the style of Impressionist music. This paper mainly analyses and studies the application of the pedals of Debussy's four piano Preludes. The wide range, delicate harmony and rich texture of Debussy's works make it a rare classical Prelude in this period. This paper takes the use of pedals in Debussy's four piano preludes as the object of analysis and research.Firstly,it introduces Debussy's life, creative background and creative works;secondly it briefly describes the style of the Preludes and the artistic characteristics of Debussy's twenty-four piano preludes;then,it combines four piano preludes: “Sail”,“Wind in the Field”,“Anacapulli Hills”,“Silent Church” example score, pedal knowledge and Debussy's preludes pedal use in these aspects.Collecting the actual performance experience of several famous pianists and performers, this paper further discusses in detail the application of pedals in the four piano Preludes and the problem of how to grasp the timbre and volume, and summarizes how to express the emotion of the music in performance.I hope that through my personal analysis and research,I can improve my performance level and let other performers have a certain understanding of Debussy's music language and inner-feelings,so as to provide a reference for the performers to better interpret works.
