Travel Writing Theory Of Taiwan Female Literature In The New Century

Since the 1990 s,travel writing,as a new force,suddenly appears in literary field of Taiwan.The exquisite and sharp writing styles of female writers differ greatly from that of the male ones,which directly make them not to be ignored.As it comes to the new century,the travel writing of Taiwan female literature is not only characteristic of the extensive subjects and rich contents but also reveals the independence of the female writers.According to the background of their birth and growth,this thesis mainly selects and studies the works of Shi Shuqing,kelly li,Zhang Rang,Chen Yuhui,Pauline Wong,Wen-yin Chung,Chen Yuhui,Hao Yuxiang,Shi Qiongyu and Lai Yuting.Whether it is the works of Lai Yuting,a born-after-1980 writer,which focus on finding the beauty of native Taiwan,or those of kelly li and zhang Rang which concentrate on the divergent trip centering around the United States,or those of Zhong Wenying which center upon the spiritual exploration tour at home and aboard,they are all inseparable from the travelling order of “departure-on the way-regression”.Therefore,this thesis takes the logic order of travelling as a framework,it firstly analyzes the female works under three dimensions of space.The first one is the physical space,namely,the travelling destination in the work.The second one is the public space,hotel experienced by women writers during the journey and the cemetery has rich connotation in public places.The third one is the life space where the writer imagines the dead people's past life when she visits their cemeteries.Such three spaces which are from outward appearance to inner essence reveal the female writer's deepening recognition of travelling.And then,it deals with the viewing perspective during the journey.When enjoying the scenery,the female writers mainly adopt the methods of the combination of“seeing afar” and “seeing near”.They try to vividly represent the travelling destination.They perceive the gender taboo under the ideology of patriarchal culture.Apart from this,this thesis also analyzes what the female writers think and how they feel from the angle of cultural reflection after the journey.The exquisite and multi-level cognition of female writers makes the cultural recognition in their works more inclusive andacceptable.Through the analysis and study of three parts,this thesis puts forth effort to make further study of outstanding features of travel writing of female writers in the new century and then reveals its value and significance.
