A Practice Report On Simulated Interpreting For 2018 Premier Li Keqiang’s Press Conference

With the growing overall national strength and further opening up,China has witnessed the greatly-enhanced international status and increased exchanges with other countries.A good opportunity for exchanges between China and the outside world is provided by the annual Premier’s press conference on which many countries in the world have focused.With the evolving international situation and development trends,substantial buzzwords including Chinese neologisms are constantly emerging to vividly depict hot events and collective will in modern society.The buzzwords are bound to be mentioned at the Premier’s news conference which covers a wide range of topics.Quality interpreting service will provide powerful guarantee for accurate information delivery.Hence,the Premier’s press conference interpreting especially the interpretation of buzzwords,has a direct bearing on the successful image construction and external communication of China as a major country.This paper is a practice report on the mock consecutive interpreting task of 2018 Premier Li Keqiang’s Press Conference.Skopos theory as a theoretical support can be traced in the interpreting process.Guided by the Skopos theory which comprises three principles: the skopos rule,the fidelity rule and the coherence rule,this practice report discusses applicable interpreting approaches(literal translation,explanation of freetranslation,omission of free translation and blending of free translation).This practice report is expected to have certain reference values for the interpreters who delve into buzzwords including Chinese neologisms and government-led press conferences.
