Metaphor is a phenomenon of language cognition that is ubiquitous in various cultures.Under the impetus of the emerging embodied cognitive trend of thought, explaining the conceptual metaphor in life and literary works from the perspective of cognitive mechanism is the focus of current social cognitive psychology. This study combines the metaphorical phenomenon that exist in everyday life and consult a large number of documents related to metaphor research. After combing and analyzing the current theoretical basis and related research on conceptual metaphor,it focuses on the more common metaphor of “hot and cold”.Based on the relevant theories of metaphor research, this paper proposed that there is psychological reality of the association between temperature concepts and moral concepts. At last, four series of experiments were adopted to investigate the psychological reality of temperature cognition metaphor of the moral concepts and its bidirectional metaphor mapping relationship.Experiment 1 using the situation change paradigm to investigate the hot of temperature and moral concepts vocabulary, whether there is a metaphorical mapping relationship between the cold of temperature and the immoral concepts vocabulary, that is,to investigate the moral concept temperature hot and cold metaphor mapping direction is from the source domain to the target domain metaphorical mapping. The experiment required the participants to choose different types of moral concepts vocabulary according to their intuitive feelings after receiving the temperature stimulation, and the results showed that the participants, whether they received cold stimulation or thermal stimulation, were biased towards the choice of moral concepts vocabulary and the difference reached significant. But there is not have a very intuitive appearance of hot is moral, and cold is an immoral metaphorical result.Experiment 2 used the same paradigm as the Experiment 1 to continue to investigate the temperature cognition metaphor of moral concepts metaphor mapping direction is from the source domain to the target domain metaphorical mapping. The experiment required the participants to to assess the character of the designated characters in the given story according to their intuitive feelings after receiving the temperature stimulation,The results show that the main effect of the cold /hot temperature was significant, the main effect of story material type are also significant, and more importantly, the interaction between cold/hot temperature stimulation and story type were significant. The results show that the main effect of the cold /hot temperature was significant, the main effect of story material type are also significant, and more importantly, the interaction between cold/hot temperature stimulation and story type were significant. The characters assigned to the moral dilemma, when the participants received the thermal stimulation, had a higher score on the impression of the characters in the story, while those who received the cold stimulation had a lower impression score on the characters in the story, while the participants in the immoral story, whether receiving hot stimulation or cold stimulation, had a low character impression score. It is proved that the existence of heat is moral and cold is an immoral metaphorical mapping relationship. It showed that : the concept of situational is easy to confirm the temperature cognition metaphor of moral concepts.Experiment 3 using the mood-induced paradigm to investigate the mapping relationship between temperature cognition metaphor of moral concepts from the target domain to the starting source domain. The participants were required to come into contact with a water cup with a certain temperature and report the temperature of the water after they receiving the vocabulary of different moral types for startup. The results showed that the main effect of moral vocabulary types was significant, the main effect of temperature was significant, and the interaction between temperature hot and cold and vocabulary type was significantly. The participants who received the initiation of the moral concepts vocabulary tended to report the temperature of the water with a certain temperature was high, while those who received the immoral vocabulary initiation the tend to report the temperature of the water supply low.It is proved that moral is hot and immoral is a cold metaphorical mapping relationship.Experiment 4 used the same paradigm as the Experiment 3 to continue to investigate the effects of different types of contextual moral concepts on temperature cold /heat judgment. That is also to confirm the mapping relationship between temperature cognition metaphor of moral concepts from the target domain to the starting source domain. In the experiment, the participants were required to judge the temperature of the water with was given at a certain temperature after startup by different types of moral story materials. The results showed that the main effect of story type was significant, the main effect of temperature was significant, and the score of character in moral dilemma was significantly higher than that of immoral story, and the interaction between temperature cold /heat and story type was significant. It is proved that use of different types of contextual moral concepts for startup will impact the participants on the report of the water temperature. The results of the four studies suggest that:(1)temperature cognition metaphor of moral concept has psychological reality.(2)Mapping mode of temperature cognition metaphor of moral concept is bidirectional and flexible,It was not only possible to mapping from the source domain to the target domain, but also mapping at the opposite path.(3)In this study,it is mainly metaphorical consistency effect that plays a role.
