The Research On Xuan Ya

Xuan Ya is a representative work imitating Er Ya in the late Qing Dynasty.Cheng Xianjia collected Li Shan's annotations of Wen Xuan and wrote them into Xuan Ya.Xuan Ya inherits the tradition of elegant books such as Er Ya and Guang Ya.It is flexible in style and expands in content to serve the purpose of "preserving ancient meanings and consulting on translation".The purpose of this paper is to make an objective evaluation of the compilation style,content,value and limitations of Xuan Ya through a comprehensive study of the book,and to discuss the uniqueness of Xuan Ya in the elegant book family by comparing it with other elegant books.The full text is divided into four parts:The first part is the compilation of Xuan Ya,discussing the background of the times and academic atmosphere before and after the Xuan Ya.In the late Qing Dynasty,social unrest led to the transfer of style and the decline of textual criticism.Pragmatism began to flourish.The urgency of communication between China and the West has led to the rapid development of translation studies.Translators advocated translating foreign languages in classical Chinese and Xuan Ya came into being as the times require.The second part is about the style of Xuan Ya.Xuan Ya basically follows the tradition of elegant books,but it also carries out stylistic innovation.The vocabulary of Shi Gu and Shi Yan are arranged in four tones,and Shi Xun is included in six articles according to different forms of interpretation.Cheng Xianjia collated and merged the interpretations,among which a large number of homonyms and synonyms appeared,which deserve further study.The third part is the comparison between Xuan Ya and other elegant books.It compares Xuan Ya with Pian Ya,Die Ya,Mao Ya,Shuo Ya,as well as Wen Xuan Lei Gu which appeared later in style and content,in order to analyze the characteristics and deficiencies of Xuan Ya itself.The fourth part is the value and limitation of Xuan Ya.Xuan Ya contains the words not included in Er Ya and Guang Ya,and corrects some errors in Li Shan's annotations,which has certain significance in lexicology and exegetics.As the first elegant book specializing in Wen Xuan,Xuan Ya.has the nature of elegant book that specializing in books,and it is an academic phenomenon that can not be ignored inthe history of dictionaries.However,there are also some problems in Xuan Ya,such as imprecise style and erroneous interpretation.
