A Study On "Imperial Court Facsimile" In Ancient Chinese Paintings

There are abundant "facsimiles" in ancient Chinese painting works that have been handed down to now.This paper takes this kind of "facsimile" study as an overall research,and divides the facsimile works into two categories according to the identity of the organizer of the imitating activity: imperial court facsimile and private facsimile.Although this paper focuses on the study of "imperial court facsimile",these two kinds of facsimile have many commonalities,so it is inevitable to discuss the related problems of "facsimile" with some private copies.This paper will discuss from four aspects.First of all,display the abundant "facsimile phenomenon" in ancient Chinese painting works and divide the facsimile into three parts regarding to its own characteristics: the original work didn’t exist anymore;the original works and facsimile coexist;the forms of facsimile and the original work have big difference.Upon this,discuss the various transformations of "facsimile" in external form;In second aspect,this paper mainly analyzes the method of imitating.Combining with the concrete facsimile works,analyze the method of imitating painting described in Gu Kaizhi’s Art Observation of Famous Paintings in Wei Jin,and divide it into three aspects: the method of outlining;the method of brush,ink and applycolors;the method of painting spirit by imitating;The third part mainly combs the various causes and functions of "imperial court facsimile" in past dynasties,and emphatically discuss two important events of imperial court facsimile: first,in Tang dynasty reigned by Wu Zetian,Zhang Yizhi utilized the activity of facsile in library to switch the authentic work with a copy of the painting.it seems to be out of the personal interest in the court facsimile,but behind it,the reality is that the rulers of the Tang palace did not pay much attention to the painting and calligraphy works;second,Korea requested the Northern Song dynasty to facsimile the mural of Xiangguo temple,which was out of religious worship,and this event impliedthe long-distance spread of song culture through "facsimile".The fourth aspect further discusses "imperial court facsimile".First of all,imperial court facsimile played an important role in promoting the painting works,especially the spread of murals depended on the support of imperial court and the smaller version of facsimile;in the aspect of scroll paintings,imperial court facsimile also made more imperial court collections flow to the folks.The most important thing is that the spread of painting works is actually a kind of cultural communication.Secondly,further probe into the significance of facsimile in the study of art history.
