Lu Shuxiang pointed out that there are 280 verbs in the 1000 most frequently used words in Chinese,of which 200 are monosyllables, accounting for 70%.It can be seen that although disyllabic words are dominant in Chinese and the total number of disyllabic verbs is more than that of monosyllabic verbs, the frequency of using monosyllabic verbs is very high in practice. The verbs "ban" "gan" "zuo" belongs to the verbs with the basic meaning of "zuo",they are not only commonly used in modern Chinese, but also very important in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. However, the research on the verbs with the basic meaning of "zuo" mainly focuses on the verbs"gao" and "nong".There are many study on the verbs“gan”and“zuo”,but most of them mainly focus on diachronic investigation and usage analysis, rarely involving object collocation research. The research of verb-object collocation mainly focuses on exploring the semantic relationship between verb and object. The study of the verb"ban" is even ignored by the academic community. Therefore, this paper takes the verbs"ban,"gan","zuo" as the research object, and make a thorough explore of these three verbs' the object characteristics. The main content of this paper consists of four parts:In the second chapter,by investigating the definitions of the verb "ban","gan""zuo" in five Chinese dictionaries, seven meanings of the verb "ban",four meanings of the verb "gan" and ten meanings of the verb "zuo" are summarized. On the basis of collecting and counting the object corpus of "ban","gan" and "zuo" in the modern Chinese corpus of Peking University, the third chapter analyses the object choice of the meanings of "ban,"gan","zuo",and explores their strong meanings of"ban?" "gan?" "zuo?" and their frequently used meanings of "ban??ban?""gan?" "zuo??zuo??zuo??zuo?“.Chapter Four studies the semantic groups of noun objects and verb objects respectively, and then analyses the distribution of the semantic categories of the verbs"ban","gan","zuo".It explores the object choice and restriction of the semantic groups, and concludes summarize their semantic features of the collocation:the verb "ban has semantic features of[+have][+procedure][+reference]and[+solution],the object of"gan" has the characteristics of[-thing][+strength][+engagement][+derogation],and the object of "zuo" is typical of[+identity][+production][+labor][+engagement][+progress][+usage],besides, these three verbs has the common characteristics of[±concrete]in some semantic groups. Then a conclusion comes that the verbs "ban"and "gan" lay particular emphasis on one aspect, while "zuo" is a more general verbs, that is,"ban","gan",and "zuo can be regarded as the relationship of "class and "type".The fifth chapter uses the results of the study to distinguish the similar collocations of the verbs of "ban" "gan" "zuo".This paper takes the verbs ban","gan" and "zuo" as the research objects, analyses their meaning and object collocation in modern Chinese, explores their object characteristics, illustrates the selectivity and restriction of verbs on object semantics, and distinguishes the differences among them, hoping to be of some help to Chinese verb-object research and word explanation in dictionary.
