Ci-poetry is the treasure of the Chinese nation.Concise in language and profound in meaning,it shines in the long history of Chinese literature.Li Yu,the Lord of the Southern Tang Dynasty,is an outstanding representative in the history of Chinese poetry and he is known as the “Emperor of the Ci-poems”.The secret of his success in ci-poems lies in his creation of images. In translation, the key point is to reconstruct the original image, reproduce the artistic beauty of the original ci-poem,and represent the feeling of the poet. The “image-G” transformation model proposed by Jiang Qiuxia emphasizes the overall formation and reproduction of the original artistic image in the process of literary translation, which is consistent with the overall artistic conception of Chinese poetry.Based on Jiang Qiuxia’s theory of image-G actualization, this thesis uses the principles of whole, closure and heterogeneous isomorphism, selects a few of Li Yu’s ci-poems and focuses on the comparative analysis of the translation of its images to explore the representation of image-G in translation. This thesis aims at exploring the significance of the image-G actualization theory in the artistic translation of Li Yu’s ci-poems,and the conclusion has been drawn that the translator should not only stick to the correspondence of words or sentences when translating Li Yu’s words but paying attention to the reproduction of the overall image, that is,the reproduction of image-G,thus affirming the significance of the image-G actualization theory to the English translation of Li Yu’s ci-poems.Meantime,this thesis offers some suggestions for follow-up researches.
