Coping Tactics For Chinglish In C-E Concecutive Interpreting

Chinglish is a common phenomenon and long-term pain for Chinese interpreters who are influenced by negative transfer of mother tongue.This report is based on two Chinese-English interpreting practices conducted by the author for Malaysian advance team visiting Shaanxi province for the 3~rdd Silk Road International Exposition.After the first practice,through transcript analysis,the author categorized the problems in the target language,and found three major Chinglish errors,including redundancy,dangling modifiers and neglected logical relations.In this regard,Transfer of Mother Tongue in second language acquisition was adopted to analyze the causes of the above problems.Then,in order to improve language quality,under the guidance of Faithfulness Concept in Interpretive Theory of Translation,the author proposed three coping tactics respectively,namely,elimination and simplification of redundancy,division and reconstruction of dangling modifiers,as well as addition and explanation of neglected logical relations.After that,the proposed tactics were implemented in the second practice.Through self-review and client evaluation of each interpreting practice,the effectiveness of the proposed tactics was verified.At last,the limitations were demonstrated.It is hoped that this report could provide theoretical and practical reference for interpreting learners.
