Practice Report On Consecutive Interpretation Of Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Press Conference For The First Secession Of The 13th National People’s Congress

The report,which is based on the material of Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s Press Conference for the First Secession of the 13th National People’s Congress,is a practice report on consecutive interpretation.The report analyzed the translation difficulties and the reasons for improper translations from three aspects of vocabulary,sentences,and Chinese expressions and famous sayings.The corresponding reasonable and effective solutions were raised to provide universal experience and reference help for the author and other interpreters in the future.Based on Gile’s Effort Model and by the methodology of comparative analysis,the report analyzed the author’s and the original solutions to some translation difficulties,and the two translation effects.Translation difficulties included multiple translations of one word and speech conversion,logical structure of statements and translation of sentences’ general meaning,and Chinese expression and famous sayings.The report came up with the suggested ways of using various expressions to avoid repetition and flexibly using conversion of verbs and nouns while dealing with lexical translation difficulties,the suggested ways of not sticking to the source text but focusing on the logic while dealing with sentence translation difficulties,and the suggested ways of expressing the main idea and considering audiences’ different cultural background while dealing with the translation difficulties of Chinese expressions and famous sayings.The report concluded experience that,in order to improve translation quality and interpreters’ professional skills,interpreters should pay attention to the cultivation of the ability to adjust their energy distribution efficiently,rapid learning ability,the ability to remember without notes and the ability to properly adjust mentality.Meanwhile,interpreters should focus on thought training and language competence training according to their own abilities.
