An Analysis Of The Chinese Translation Of The Soviet Satirical Novel From The Perspective Of The General Theory Of Verbal Humor

Considering the importance of translating satire in “The Twelve Chairs” Soviet satire novel,the paper analyzes the characteristics and forms of satire translated in “The Twelve Chairs” in three different social periods of China(1954s,1985 s and 2004s),evaluates through the forms and kinds of satire presented in the original text,which translation version is more successful and the factors affecting its success,and determines the ironic translatability in the satire novels.The six-layer model of joke characterization provided by the General Theory of Verbal Humor(GTVH)is effectively applied in this study to find out the characteristics and difficulties of translating,and analyzing the translation of satirical texts.Besides,the application of Social change theory is used to analyze the characteristics and forms of satire in Chinese translation of “The Twelve Chairs” made in different social periods,and evaluate the success of its satire translation.This study does not only analyze three Chinese translations from the linguistic characteristic factors,but also discusses it from the non-linguistic factors in the framework of internal socio-political culture.So far,Chinese and Russian scholars have not studied the ironic language translation from this two sides in a systematic way,to some extent,this paper makes up the gap in the field of the research.
