| The practical materials of this translation report come from the collection of Australia Research Center of Mudanjiang Normal University---The Convict Settlers of Australia(Chapter5).The book mainly tells us that due to the extremely high crime rate in Britain in the 18 th century, the British turned their eyes from North America to Australia in order to solve the problem of prisoners in exile. Thus,Australia became the settlement of Irish convicts.Taking into account the characteristics of historical texts, the translator takes the Skopos Theory of German functional school as the translation guideline of this translation practice report. In the whole process of translation, the translator pays more attention to the transmission of cultural information, and converts the focus of translation from the traditional language objects to the target readers. In the case analysis, the translator discusses and analyzes the translation methods of passive voices and long sentences. The chief translation methods used are reverse translation, sequential translation and splitting.Meanwhile, the translator studies and analyzes the translation of the discourse in source text.In the whole process of translation, the translator realizes that Skopos Theory has a strong theoretical guidance value, and also noted that the translation practice should not be limited to simple language transmission; The cultural transmission should be placed in the first place. In the end,the translator hopes that the translation practice can provide a different perspective for the study of the culture related to Australia’s becoming a place of exile of criminals,as well as offering references and assistance for those who are absorbed in Australian cultural translation. |
