A Report On E-C Translation Of Introductions For Cooperation Between SIE And Business Partners (Excerpt)

As a common type of translation,expository translation has the characteristics of professionalism,logicality and rigorous use of words,which is difficult and challenging for translators.Under the background of the Belt and Road Initiative,the multinational enterprise SIE,which is a giant in the field of electronic and electrical engineering,responded to the call and actively devoted itself to the construction of the initiative.The author’s English-Chinese translation practice task,Instructions for the Cooperation between SIE and Business Partners,aims to provide information and guidance for the company’s business departments and business partners,and to provide important reference value for large companies in China to go global.The text of the practice report,excerpted from the Instructions for the Cooperation between SIE and Business Partners,explores the English to Chinese translation process in the guidance of Toury’s Translation Norms Theory,particularly from the perspective of “adequacy” and “acceptability” of its initial norms.In order to ensure the quality of translation,this report adopts the translation strategy of the combination of domestication and foreignization.Then the author summarizes the source text features from six levels: abbreviations,special terms,language characteristics,use of synonyms,double dashes and sentence structures,and expounds the corresponding translation strategies on the above six levels.In conclusion,taking the cases as a starting point,the paper discusses the difficulties and solutions in the translation of explanatory texts.Through the description of the task and case analysis,the author has got the following two inspirations: Firstly,in the explanatory text,the English-Chinese translation based on the Toury initial translation norm is more accurate and semantically coherent,which shows that the Toury initial translation norm has a strong guiding significance for the translation of explanatory texts.Secondly,in the process of English-Chinese translation of explanatory texts,abbreviations,special terms and language characteristics should be translated under the guidance of “translation adequacy”,while simultaneous use of synonyms,double dashes and sentence structures need to be translated under the guidance of “translation acceptability”.The author hopes that this report can provide some reference for the translation studies of explanatory texts.
