The Exegesis Study Of Xiaoerya Shu

Xiaoerya is the first exegetical book to enlarge Erya in China.Influenced by Erya,the study of Xiaoerya was very weak in the past generations.Until the Qing Dynasty,the notes of Xiaoerya just bee.Xiaoerya Shu written by Wangxu has certain research value because of its precise annotation so that it sticks out of others.However,in the vast number of notes,this book has not yet attracted the much attention.At present,the study of Xiaoerya Shu is limited to its historical value,and there is no comprehensive and in-depth discussion.In this paper,we will study its style,content,method,value and limitation.The first chapter,based on the local chronicles and other ancient books,presents the life of Wangxu,the author of Xiaoerya Shu,and explains the general content of the book as well as the main research methods and research value of this paper.The second chapter introduces the style and content of Xiaoerya Shu.This chapter will clarify the style from three aspects: arrangement,interpretation and textual criticism.At the same time,it concretely analyzes the exegesis content of the book,including the purpose of every piece,the explanation of the nouns and sentences,the correction of the original text and the notes of Song Xian.The third chapter summarizes the exegetical concept and method of Xiaoerya Shu.Wangxu’s work embodys consistent concepts of exegesis,including the concept of orthography,accurate meaning and social history.Among them,we should pay attention to the influence of social history which is the top one in his mind.Under the guidance of these concepts,Wang used the methods such as "seeking meaning from sound" to explain the titles,the words and the sentences.In addition,he used laws and other ancient books to correct Xiaoerya and the original note of Song Xian,so as to improve the accuracy of Xiaoerya.The fourth chapter analyzes the value of Xiaoerya Shu from the aspects of widely collecting and explaining related words,correcting ancient texts and notes.The book does not stop at the explanation of the words.It pays more attention to the variant Chinese characters,the interchangeability characters and the cognate words so as to display a more complete semantic system to the public.Meanwhile,he devoted himself to correcting the mistakes of Xiaoerya,in order to making it closer to the original appearance.The fifth chapter illustrates two kinds of limitations of Xiaoerya Shu such as improper quotation and mistaken corrections.In the sixth chapter,there are 14 words of Xiaoerya Shu being elucidated again.We can distinguish and amend the words being not well or wrongly explained through the textual research on the meaning of the words.I hope that these work could provide the study of Xiaoerya Shu with some help.
