Ellis occupies a very important position in Zhou Zuoren’s mental system.Because of many sources of thought and the mixture of Chinese and Western contexts,Zhou Zuoren’s acceptance of Ellis is covered and twisted. This paper focuses on the ideological resources Zhou Zuoren obtained from Ellis in 1920 s,in order to sort out the influence path.On the basis of previous studies, this paper attempts to deepen the relationship between Zhou Zuoren and Ellis,in addition to supplement the places where have not been fully clarified. The thesis is divided into two sections.Section one: shelter and choice--Zhou Zuoren’s self construction. The first chapter focuses on the stage problem of Zhou Zuoren’s acceptance of Ellis. From he went to Japan in 1922,Zhou Zuoren’s acceptance of Ellis came from direct reading and the intermediary role of write birch school. After 1922,The acceptance entered a period of intentional choice for him.Zhou Zuoren studied and translated a large number of works of Ellis, and used Ellis’ theory to solve ideological conflicts and practical difficulties. The second chapter reveals Zhou Zuoren’s choice of his sexology knowledge. On the one hand,it is out of the attention to the body.On the other hand,it is based on the responsibility of arousing women’s independent consciousness. The mental background of anti ethics made him mainly use of the sexual psychology of Ellis to break the imprisonment of old morality. In the third chapter,Zhou Zuoren’s understanding is the result of self translation, which integrates the resources of Confucianism, the theory of reconciliation and Liang Shuming’s theory. The philosophy of conflict is closer to the core of Ellis’ thought,in which the concepts of opposition, balance and gradual progress run through many aspects of Zhou Zuoren’s thought.Section two: Integration and Transformation--China’s Ellis. For Zhou Zuoren,Ellis is not only the conciliator of loss and loneliness, but also have a great influence on his choice of value position and aesthetic way. With the living conditions and cultural resources,Zhou Zuoren’s acceptance of Ellis possessed the new quality that Ellis thought did not possess,he realized the interpretation of his own thoughts.First,By virtue of the scientific spirit and moral concept of Ellis,Zhou Zuoren recognized the commonality of science and morality. He raised science to a kind of belief. He deduced a new enlightenment path of scientific moralization.Second,The emphasis of Ellis on the creative personality and the emotional function of literature helped Zhou Zuoren to determine the intrinsic value of literature and correct his tendency to despise individuals.Third,For Zhou Zuoren, who fell into pessimism in the late 1920 s,Ellis’ s indulgence made him take the initiative to lose the identity of enlightenment, pay attention to the construction of daily life, and form a new way of subject existence.
