With the increasingly frequent cultural exchanges between China and the West, more and more excellent works of literature have been introduced from overseas.Detective novel is an important genre of popular literature, which is highly embraced among a wide range of readers.Since a large number of western detective novels have been translated, the creation of detective literature in China has been flourishing. This paper is an English-Chinese translation report. This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of detective novel Deep Dark, written by the famous American detective novelist Laura Griffin, published in 2016.Deep Dark tells a story of a criminal committed by serial killings by using network security loopholes to steal female personal information. The detective novel is selected as the research text in translation practice. The objectives of this study are three-fold.First,the author hopes to translate outstanding works of literature and meet the readers’ strong reading need and provide reference for Chinese writers.Second, the author tries to prove the rationality and feasibility of communicative translation theory in guiding literature translation. This translation practice is guided by the communicative translation theory of Peter Newmark,a British translation theorist. The translator translates original text from three aspect: vocabulary, sentence and dialogue, who used methods of conversion, addition and omission, etc.Based on the above methods, the translator strives to achieve the fluent sentences and complete content,so that the translation can be accepted by Chinese readers in both content and language form.Through this translation practice, the translator has deepened her understandingof communicative translation theory, gained more enlightenment on detective literature translation, and laid a solid foundation for her future work and study.
