Expressive painting is different from reappearance painting. It is a metaphorical form of expression formed by the painter’s image processing of things through his own feelings or passion, and the painter achieves spiritual and emotional satisfaction through this form of expression.Expressive painting is based on personal emotion, and it is a form of expression of "expressing emotion by borrowing things" or "measuring things by oneself".Expressive painting is not the same as expressionist painting.Expressive painting covers a wider range.Generally,we think it is a painting that integrates different painting types, breaks the limitation of techniques and materials, and shows a strong spiritual appeal through the cooperation of sensibility and rationality.Expressive painting extends the language of artistic expression and enhances the spirit of painting.Poetic thinking is a way of thinking in which a certain emotion is expressed and expressed by attaching notes to a specific thing. This way of thinking and expression is most commonly used in Chinese traditional painting. In the era of cultural exchange and integration between China and the west, the exploration of poetic expression in expressive painting is the way of inheriting our own traditional culture and exploring the expression with national characteristics. The opening chapter needs to explain the poetic nature of the title and the poetic thinking in the text, which both refer to the philosophical abstract thinking. This paper explores the poetic thinking in expressive painting through four parts. The first part is to understand the concept and characteristics of expressive painting and poetic thinking. The second part expounds the artistic characteristics of poetic expression in Chinese and western expressive paintings from the perspective of the influence of poetic thinking on Chinese and western expressive paintings and their forms of expression. The third part illustrates the influence of poetic thinking on expressive painting creation through case analysis. The fourth part starts from the contemporary art environment to further explore the development of expressive painting in China.Through the development of thecharacteristics of expressive painting and poetic thinking, the paper expounds the form and significance of poetic thinking in expressive painting.
