| As is known to all,there are still many problems existed in English teaching in junior high schools.To explore a new and efficient teaching method is always a challenge for English teachers.The micro-class teaching method,by using modern technology,has certain appeal to students.However,the micro-class video is usually short.The knowledge points and the teaching results are limited.While Dewey’s Five Steps teaching method(namely: situation,problem,hypothesis,inference and verification)is a traditional teaching method,which has many advantages.It will help to develop the students’ various abilities.The author intends to combine these two teaching methods and make a comparative teaching experiment,so as to explore a better teaching method which cannot only arouse the students’ interest in learning English,but also improve the students’ English scores.The research will address the following questions:1.What effect will the application of Micro-class Based on Dewey’s Five Steps have on students’ interest in learning English?2.What is the effect of Micro-class Based on Dewey’s Five Steps on students’ English scores?The subjects of the experiment are 100 students from two parallel classes(the experimental class and the controlled class)in Grade Eight from a certain junior high school in Siping.The micro-class based on Dewey’ Five Steps is applied as the teaching method to the experimental class,while the traditional teaching method is employed in the controlled class.The teaching experiment lasts for three months.In this study,the tests,the questionnaires and the interview are used as the instruments.Meanwhile the SPSS 19.0 is used for data analysis to verify the two research questions.After the application of the micro-class based on Dewey’s Five Steps teaching method in the experimental class,the results indicate:1.The students’ interest in learning English has been improved after applying the micro-class based on Dewey’s Five Steps teaching method in the experimental class.2.The average score of the students in the experimental class is,to a certain degree,higher than that in the controlled class.In short,after applying the micro-class based on Dewey’s Five Steps teaching method in the experimental class,both of the students’ English learning interest and scores have been improved.The study has contributed to paving a possible way for exploring a practical way for English teaching in junior high school. |
