The text of the translation practice is excerpted from the prologue and the first two chapters of the book The Water Will Come. The book, written by Jeff Goodell, contains front-line reports in 12 countries. It shows a series of sinking islands and cities all over the world from the first person perspective, emphasizing the enormous danger of sea level rise. The author aims to make the readers realize the seriousness of climate warming, and calls on coastal cities and countries to take actions, including quickly implementing long-term special projects to maintain their coastlines. The language is practical, scientific and rigorous.Considering the content and language style of the book, this translation practice report is mainly guided by the Skopos theory. The translator adopts corresponding translation methods and strategies to follow the three rules of the theory, namely, the Skopos rule, coherence rule and loyalty rule. The translator hopes to provide more useful reference for translating works on the same type and related themes. This report is divided into four parts. The first chapter is the description of the translation task, including the task background and the analysis for the features of the original text. The second chapter introduces the translation process from the preparation before translation, translation process and the review after translation. The third part is the case analysis, which mainly analyzes the typical problems encountered in translation from lexical, syntactical and rhetorical aspects.Corresponding translation strategies and methods are also provided in this chapter. The last part is the summary of the translation practice, including the unsolved problems and the inspiration for future studies.
