| The material of this translation practice is the first five chapters of Leaving It to You,which is an English diary novel published in 1992 by Wendy Orr.She is a famous Australian novelist and this book is one of her representative works.The novel revolves around the community service activities of a girl in Grade 9.Taking her diary as a clue,the novel tells the story of the girl and her service object—an old woman with a strange and devious personality.This is a work full of warmth,but also a work of positive significance for the psychological development of children readers.With the deepening of globalization,the development needs of cultural undertakings and cultural industries are increasing significantly.As an important carrier of culture,literature is of great significance in promoting the communication among different cultures.Among them,children’s literature plays an important role because of its unique target readers and educational effects.The vigorous development of foreign children’s literature has given rise to a large number of excellent children’s literature works,and the introduction and translation of these excellent works play a crucial role in enriching the domestic children’s literature market and invigorating the field of children’sliterature.Therefore,it is a great challenge for translators to adopt reasonable and effective translation methods on the premise of the principle of faithfulness.In view of this,the translator takes foreign children’s literature as the object of this translation practice in order to provide references for other translators.The translation process consists of three parts: pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.In pre-translation,in order to grasp the style of it,the translator read the novel and collected a lot of information.And then,the translator made an analysis of the target readers.By this,the translator defined the translation should be in line with Chinese children readers’ reading habits and needs.In while-translation,the translator has deeply extracted the colloquial features,authenticity features and personalized language features of the source text,and then made a vivid reproduction of the source text by using translation techniques and methods such as amplification,shift,free translation,combination,literal translation and variation translation.In post-translation,the translator proofread the target text and corrected it with the help of teachers.After the whole process of translation,case studies were made in detailed which showed the analysis and solutions for faithfully reproducing the features of source text in translating process.In this translation practice,the translator strictly insisted on specific case analysis,and comprehensively applied a variety of methods to reproduce thefeatures of the source text.And the translator gave full play to her subjective initiative,so as to complete the translation practice and write a report,providing new ideas for the development and research of children’s literature translation in the future. |
