| Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan(1797-1864)was the famous Mongolian eminent monk scholar and Buddhist philosopher in kalkha great Kulun Temple(now Ulaanbaatar,Mongolia)in the 19 th century.In his whole life,he wrote more than 100 works about the annotation of Buddhist classics,Buddhist folklore,eulogy,biography,etc.and most of his works have been published in the great Kulun temple,and a few of them have been reprinted in Tibet and Buryat.However,up to now,the research of Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan has not attracted the attention of Chinese and Mongolian scholar circles.In this paper,the author takes the biography " Biography of Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan·Gate of faith " which was written in Tibetan by Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan`s disciple Jigmuddaoerji as the research object for the first time.On the basis of the translation and annotation of the full text of the biography,and then conducts a comprehensive study on the writer,the time of completion,the literature sources,the content structure,the main idea and the value of the biography.This paper consists of three parts: introduction,text(1-4 chapters)and conclusion.In the introduction,it briefly explains the reasons for topic choosing,the general situation of the research,the significance of the research and the research methods.In the first chapter,the author gives full translation of two biographies,"the gate of faith" and "the voice of cuckoo in spring",and makes more than 100 notes on Buddhist terms,scriptures,people,temples,folk customs and other terms.From the second to the fourth chapters,the author analyzes the collection situation,edition features,literature source,content structure and ideological theme of the biography.Through the comparison of the three existing biography texts,preliminarily determines that the biography is written on the basis of the “Autobiography of Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan”,and believes that in the process of sequential description of his life and deeds,the biography significantly highlights his two times of experiences,that are studying,political and religious activities in Tibet,and Buddhist activities in Beijing,Wutaishan,Hohhot and other regions.Therefore,the biography is of great historical value to the study of the life stories and writings of Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan,a Buddhist philosopher in the great Kulun temple in the middle of the 19 th century,as well as to the study of the historical events concerning the Buddhist relationship between the great Kulun temple in the kalkha region and the three great monasteries in Lhasa,Tibet.It is also of great religious value to the study of the biography of the eminent monks in the middle of the 19 th century.In the conclusion,the historical contribution of Ngag-dbang-dpal-ldan to Tibetan Buddhism in Mongolia is comprehensively evaluated,at the same time,the achievements and future research prospects of this study are pointed out. |
