| Wusong fortress is located at the mouth of the Huangpu River into the Yangtze River. It is both a river and a coastal defense fortress. At present, the academic community pays much attention to the course of several wars and the major generals in Wusong area.Researches on forts and weapons have also been fruitful. However, little attention has been paid to the value of Wusong fortress itself, and few articles have been written to analyze the strategic mission and the mission of Wusong fortress in detail. Therefore, this paper takes Wusong fortress as the research object in several wars it has experienced.Combining with the specific historical materials, the root of construction of Wusong fortress, people’s understanding and the management of Wusong area, this paper takes a comprehensive description. In the early Ming dynasty, the establishment of Wusong river Shou Yu institute to resist the invasion of Japanese pirates played a certain role. But in the middle and late Ming dynasty,it was abandoned. In the early period of the Qing dynasty, east and west forts were established. But the battle of Wusong in the First Opium War ended in defeat. After the Second Opium War,the Qing government strengthened the construction of Wusong fortress by building the navy of North and South Seas, building warships and improving the technology of the fort.In the Battle of Songhu and Songhu Battle in August 13,Wusong fortress failed to play its own value. This paper draws the following conclusions by summarizing the operation of Wusong fortress and its role in the wars: Firstly,Wusong fortress has its multiple missions. It can be used to protect the safety of big cities and is a shield against the advance of the enemy. It is a hard blockade fort and can be used to defend rivers and mountains.Secondly, the reason why the three wars that took place in Wusong fortress ended in failure is that people did not keep up with the time in the operation of Wusong fortress. |
