Reading teaching plays an important role in English teaching.Students can expand their knowledge and increase their vocabulary through effective English reading.In addition,reading lays a good foundation for oral communication skills and English writing skills.The English Curriculum Standard for full-time compulsory Education(2011)classifies and orientates the reading skills of junior high school students,and puts forward clearly that students should be trained to use English comprehensively.For the teaching of English reading,many English teachers generally attach importance to language teaching instead of learning strategies,focusing on examination-oriented teaching instead of cultivating students’ learning abilities.This current situation leads to the failure of students to form effective reading strategies.In view of the author’s teaching,many students can only search for article information and memorize language points when reading articles.These students are also weak in summarizing,generalizing and reasoning articles,and they lack effective reading strategies.What’s more,teachers also have not found effective reading teaching methods.Under the guidance of constructivism theory and cooperative learning theory,the author has carried out an action research on English reading teaching in junior high school,which is based on the Guidance Case,so as to find out an effective reading teaching method.And this study also tries to explore the following two questions.First,what impact will the use of Guidance Case have on the development of students’ English reading strategies? Second,what effect will the use of Guidance Case have on students’ English reading scores?This study consists of two rounds of action researches.Taking the students of the two classes taught by the author as the research subjects,the author practiced English reading teaching for one semester in the two classes.In the first round of action research,we first identified the problem,made assumptions,drew up and implemented the action plan,and finally summarized the results and reflection of the action.Through the second round of action research,this thesis put forward the revision of assumptions,adjusted the plan,and carried on a new round of action plan.After questionnaires,interviews and test results were analyzed through Excel2007 and SPSS20.0,we got the results from our action research: firstly,using Guidance Case in English reading teaching can stimulate and mobilize students’ reading interest and initiatives in learning;it helps students form their English reading strategies;secondly,the reading performance of the experimental subjects has been improved to different degrees by using Guidance Case in teaching process,especially for the students at the middle level.However,due to the limitations of the author’s theoretical level,the practice time and the breadth of practice objects,the research conclusions are narrow.Based on the above action research results,in order to improve the English reading teaching effect of junior high school,the author puts forward some practical suggestions.First,teachers should strive to achieve scientific grouping.Second,teachers are supposed to pay attention to the effects of preview.Besides,teachers had better arrange the time of cooperative learning and students’ independent thinking.Finally,teachers should also handle the balance between group presentation time and written assignment time.
