| The materials of this translation practice report are from When Women Ruled the World: Six Queens of Egypt. The book is about how the six queens became the actual rulers of the country in ancient Egypt when female power was suppressed. This book is chosen as the translation material to provide a reference for today’s female leadership, and to make a comprehensive introduction to some of the little known ancient Egyptian women rulers. The form of the translation project is English to Chinese. There is no Chinese version of this book at present. The translation practice report is based on chapter five and chapter six of this book. This translation practice report describes the whole process of this translation practice in four chapters: task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion. The first two chapters introduce the content and process of this translation practice.Through the analysis of the original text, the translator decides to take Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence theory as the guiding theory of this translation practice. In case analysis, guided by the theory of functional equivalence, the translator uses specific translation cases to analyze and summarize different translation methods from four aspects: word level, sentence level, rhetoric level and cultural level, such as adding translation and part of speech transformation,so as to make the translation reproduce the information and style in the original text in the most natural way. Finally, the translator summarizes the translation experience obtained from this translation practice, providing suggestions for the future translation practice. Then the translator lists the translation problems to be sovled, which are mainly focused on the historical aspects. The translator still needs to constantly improve her translation ability and try to solve the remaining problems. |
