This English to Chinese translation project is selected from Moment of Lift: How Empowering Women Changes the World,a book written by Melinda Gates, the wife of Bill Gates. This book belongs to autobiography. With gender inequality exiting all over the world, the writer narrates many past stories from the first-person perspective.By telling the inspiring stories from a women’s angle, the writer focuses on the importance of women’s rights, which leads to the core of this book--the importance of gender equality. To deliver the humanistic spirit and challenge the translator’s skill, the translator selected chapter five to make this report. The storytelling of this chapter is authentic, but due to cultural differences, there are also some difficulties when translating. This report consists of four parts, namely the pre-translation preparation, guiding theory of the translation project, case analysis, and conclusion. The translation program is mainly under the guidance of functional equivalence. The case analysis demonstrates specific translation methods, such as discrimination and extension of a word, conversion, and amplification. At the same time, analysis at the lexical level and the syntactical level are also taken into consideration.By doing this project, the translator finds some characteristics when translating an autobiography. As a philanthropist,Melinda Gates makes an appeal to the world to build a harmonious society where people have better relationships. To this end, this translation can make an introduction of Melinda Gate’s idea from aboard to home, giving full play to the value of translation.
