| It is universally acknowledged that vocabulary is the basis of English teaching.The learning and application of English are inseparable from vocabulary support.However,English vocabulary is still a challenging problem for junior middle school students,especially rural junior middle school students.Since the 1990 s,the theory of multimodal discourse analysis has been applied to foreign language teaching and used by many scholars.Multimodality aims to study the application of multiple modes,such as vision and hearing,to the teaching process in order to improve students’ English proficiency.But so far,rural junior middle schools lack the application of multimodal teaching mode in English vocabulary teaching,especially the union of mode combination and word classification.Based on this situation,this thesis aims to study the application of multimodal teaching modes in rural English vocabulary teaching.This thesis mainly studies the following questions based on the multimodal teaching mode.(1)What is the attitude of rural junior middle school students towards multimodal teaching mode?(2)Can the multi-modal teaching mode improve the English vocabulary level of rural junior middle school students? The subjects of this experiment are students in the first two classes of Nanyang Middle School,Tanchang County,Longnan City,Gansu Province.The researcher used pretest papers,posttest papers and questionnaires to carry out the research,which lasted for four months,and conducted empirical research on the application of multi-modal teaching modes in rural English vocabulary teaching.Before conducting teaching experiment,the researcher analyzed whether there were differences in the vocabulary level of the students through pre-test papers.During the experiment,multimodal teaching mode was used in the experimental class,and grammatical translation mode was used in the control class.After the experiment,a questionnaire was distributed to investigate students’ attitudes towards the application of multimodal teaching mode in vocabulary teaching,and then the data was collected and put into SPSS for analysis and comparison.The research finds that there is no significant difference in the vocabulary level of the students in the two classes before the experiment in pre-test.Post-test results showed thatmulti-modal teaching mode is helpful to improve the vocabulary level of rural junior middle school students.The statistical analysis of the questionnaire finds that most students support multimodal teaching modes.They prefer to learn in a relatively relaxed learning environment.And they believe that the use of multi-modal teaching mode can make English vocabulary learning more vivid and easy to understand,and the union of multimodal teaching modes and word classification has unparalleled advantages over traditional teaching method.Therefore,in the future teaching,teachers should pay attention to combining different multimodal teaching modes in vocabulary teaching,mobilizing students’ enthusiasm in order to improve teaching efficiency and learning efficiency. |
