Since the beginning of the 20 th century,the development of Gansu traditional Chinese painting has experienced many years of wind and rain.Although,everything starts from the weak foundation,but with the constant efforts and struggle of many artists,Gansu traditional Chinese painting creation and the mainstream situation of national traditional Chinese painting creation are highly consistent.After the period of the Republic of China,the founding of the people’s Republic of China to the "Cultural Revolution " 17 years before,1970 s and after the reform and opening up four important periods.In these four periods,Gansu traditional Chinese painting has realized the transformation from traditional to modern from aesthetic consciousness,creative purpose,subject matter content and artistic language.Of course,there are many factors that cause the modern transformation of Gansu traditional Chinese painting,such as the change of times,the change of political situation,the promotion of economy,the evolution of culture from single to pluralistic,the transformation of local artists’ own "consciousness" and the artistic activities of foreign artists in Gansu,such as investigation,creation,copying and communication,which finally lead to the scene of Gansu traditional Chinese painting’s continuous leap and prosperity today.
