With the rapid economic development, people's living condition has improved. However, the global rate of single people has increased year by year, single women accounting for a large proportion. Many scholars have researched love and marriage values from different perspectives, but there is not many researches on female from the cultural perspective. Thus,it is necessary to conduct a deep study on cultural differences in love and marriage values between Chinese urban women and American urban women.Taking the first season of Ode to Joy and the three seasons of Sex and The City for example,a total of 180 conversations were collected respectively as research samples. The author analyzes the different love and marriage values between the two countries.Through analysis, the findings are as follows: In terms of spouse selection,Chinese females pay more attention to one's economic ability and family background, while American females emphasize common hobbies and personality. In terms of marriage, most Chinese females will think about marriage once starting a courtship.American females focus on the present loving relationship. As for attitudes towards sex, both Chinese and American females have discussed this, but Chinese women are more succinct, and American women are direct and open. The final results are discussed in light of Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions Theory and Hall's High and Low Context Theory. This thesis focuses on the comparative analysis of the differences between Chinese and American urban female love and marriage values from the perspective of cross-cultural communication,so as to put forward some effective suggestions on cultural differences and cultural exchanges as well as the development of TV dramas. It contributes to the research in related fields in the future.
