| English reading comprehension ability,which accounts for a large proportion in National Matriculation English Test,is an important standard to measure students’ English level.At present,the English level of art students in senior high schools is low,so is their reading ability.In many senior high schools,traditional teaching method is still prominent,mainly focusing on vocabulary and grammar,which is hard to interest students.However,multimodal teaching model,in order to fully utilize students’ senses,combines multiple modes,which is of great help to reduce their reading anxiety,can improve their learning enthusiasm,help students understand text,and help them to be confident in English reading as well.Therefore,the author attempts to explore the following research questions:1)Does multimodal teaching method help to cultivate the interest of art students in English reading? 2)Does multimodal teaching method help to improve art students’ detailed understanding ability and judgement and logic inference ability in English reading?Based on multimodal discourse analysis theories,input and output theories,and visual grammar theory,the current study tries to explore the influence of multimodal teaching method on art students’ English reading interest,their ability of detailed understanding,and of judgment and logic inference.Two art classes of the same English level are chosen in this three-month experiment.In this experiment,questionnaires,interviews and tests are used to get the experimental results.Based on the experimental data,it is found that multimodal teaching method can help to create a relaxing reading environment,which motivates students’ reading interests,and it also makes full use of listening,speaking,reading,writing and viewing in English reading teaching,which can help students learn English better.Therefore,their detailed understanding ability and judgement and logic inference ability of English reading are improved. |
