| This practice report is built on the author’s interpreting task.On April 22nd of 2019,the author provided an interpreting in Shenyang Institute of Engineering for Gregory Alan Crebbin,an Australian teacher.He highlighted planning and searching for solutions in the class.It lasted over one hour,and the participants involved are Greg,Xi Qiang,students and the interpreter.Xi Qiang was the teaching assistant.These students majored in electrical engineering and automation from the School of Electric Power.After careful analysis on the interpreting,the author finds that self-repairs seem particularly distinct in the interpreting practice.The most frequent self-repairs are same information repairs,different information repairs and appropriateness repairs,further resulting in lexical redundancy,disfluency and semantic overlapping,which takes negative influence on the interpretation.According to Interpretive Theory(IT),meaning equivalence between the source language and the target language is emphasized during the interpreting process.The interpreter is required to identify key information of the source language and deliver it accurately and concisely in target language,and expression should conform to habits of the target language.Based on the principle and requirements of meaning equivalence on the stage of re-expression,the author adopts strategies of simplification,restructuring and integration respectively so as to deal with above problems.According to the research of this thesis,lexical redundancy can be well solved through appropriate simplification on repeated words or synonymous words.Disfluency can be overcome by restructuring of information and reasonable linguistic arrangement.Semantic overlapping can be greatly solved through the application of integration for similar message and content after identification of key information.Under the guidance of IT,the interpreter can better express the speaker’s intention by application of these strategies.Ultimately,the author makes conclusion and implications and elaborates the major findings and limitations of this thesis as well as related suggestions for future study. |
