The key word “ 5E model ” is one kind of teaching model guided by IBL(inquiry-based learning)approach,which model tends to be more student-centered,and this model claims to solve problems through students ’ own inquiry and collaboration.Moreover,5E model lays emphasis on group learning which is claimed to be an available and beneficial way to improve students’ knowledge construct ability.This paper combines basic concept of 5E(engagement,exploration,explanation,elaboration,evaluation)model with characteristics of English reading in junior high school.This teaching model is creatively applied to English reading in classroom in order to observe whether this approach can promote students’ English autonomous learning ability or not.Therefore,this study applies 5E model to the English reading teaching class in junior high school to research the following three questions:Question 1:What is the change of students’ attitude towards English reading before and after the teaching experiment?Question2:What effect does 5E model have on the students’ autonomous learning ability in English reading?Question3 : Can the usage of 5E model improve the students ’ scores of English reading?This experiment period lasts one semester.The participants of this experiment are 80 students from the No.8 Junior High school in Jinzhou,who are Class Five and Class Six in Grade Two.They are named randomly EC and CC.5E model approach is adopted in EC,while traditional PPP approach is carry out in CC to English reading teaching.At the beginning and at the end of the experiment,the data are collected by quantitative and qualitative methods,including tests,questionnaires and an interview.The data are analyzed by SPSS 19.0.The experimental analysis results show that 5E model has a positive influence on junior high school English reading teaching.It can not only arouse students’ interests and confidence to learn English reading,improve their autonomous learning ability,but also obviously improve students’ English reading scores.Therefore,5E model is conducive to guiding English reading teaching in the future and has a great research value.
