| Dietary culture is an important part of traditional Chinese culture.Translation of works on Chinese dietary culture and introduction of its extensive and profound nature is of great significance in spreading Chinese civilization and promoting China’s international status.This translation practice is based on Chapter 9 of Traditional Chinese Culture.The text covers a wide range of contents,and the language is richly loaded with culture,so the requirement on translation quality and cultural connotation of the text is relatively high.In this chapter,the author analyzes the characteristics of dietary culture and explores its appropriate translation methods and techniques based on the text type theory,in the hope of contributing to the translation research of such texts,so as to help foreign friends better understand Chinese diets and thus promote Chinese dietary culture.The practice report is composed of five parts.The first part introduces the translation project,including the background of the translated text and the research significance of the translation.Part two is an overview of the translation theory,including the meaning of text type theory and its relevance to this translation practice report.Part three describes the translation process of Chapter 9 of Traditional Chinese Culture including translation preparation,translation process and proofreading.The fourth part,which is the body part of the report,analyzes the key methods of translation and difficulties and solutions thereupon with case analyses.The last part summarizes the gains and defects during this translation practice and puts forward some ideas for the future improvement.Through this translation practice,the author tries to summarize some translation methods and techniques on Chinese dietary culture,and proposes some suggestions on the translation of such type of texts.Hopefully,it could be of some reference for translators engaged in this field. |
