Richard Strauss, one of the most influential German composers of the late 19 th and early 20 th century,is known as the last composer of romantic music. From the catalogue of Strauss' s works, his creation focuses on the title music including tone poem, opera, art songs, etc.,from which we can see the distinctive "Strauss" irony and strong heroic color. The writing style of his early instrumental music, chamber music is relatively traditional, and it's not difficult to see the influence of other famous composers such as Beethoven and Brahms on his early works. This paper will focus on Strauss' s final chamber music piece: Violin Sonata in E flat Major,Op.18.Comparing with the early and late works of this talented composer,it can be found that this sonata is a turning point in Strauss' s writing career, which is different from the early writing concept and indicates the writing style of his later works. This paper will present a musical and historical analysis of the violin sonata in order to illustrate its position as the bridge between Strauss' s early and later compositional styles. In addition,I will provide a technical analysis including how to play with the piano derived from my experience as a violinist.Hope it can give some reference to other players.
