From the early days of documentaries like food searches and reviews to the “A Bite of China”released in 2012,the domestic food documentaries have changed dramatically in just a few years.The local TV stations and online platforms have joined the domestic food documentary producers,which producing many outstanding works since 2016.Many works have taken a different approach,breaking away from the mode of “A Bite of China” and exploring their own direction:they may start with the choice of theme and explore the Chinese food culture from a new perspective;or rely on local culture to build a brand industry;or depending on the advantages of the media to fit the audience to the greatest extent.These changes make the domestic food documentary have a broader stage,which highly enhance the vitality and influence of the entire industry.From the decline of “A Bite of China,to the sudden rise of " Once Upon a Bite " and " The Story Of Chuaner Ⅰ",all reflect the transformation of the audience’s aesthetic needs.Since 2016,the aesthetic features of domestic food documentaries have presented a new atmosphere and new characteristics.Firstly,the domestic food documentaries maintain original Chinese cultural characteristics,deeply rooted in the traditional aesthetic thought and constantly enriches the connotation of the food aesthetic image as well as deepening the creation of artistic conception,to create an aesthetic style with oriental charm.Then,domestic food documentaries enhance visual and auditory impact and through the ultimate audio-visual experience to stimulate the audience on the taste of synesthesia by relying on the improvement of shooting and recording technologies.Lastly,based on the background of mass culture and consumer culture,many works begin to show an aesthetic turn with postmodernism color at the same time.Today’s domestic food documentaries are transitioning towards diversification,branding,and industrialization.However,the problems of over-commercialization and entertainment that follow cannot be ignored.
