This paper takes a total of 970 selected topics of theses on Master of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages from Shanghai International Studies University,East China Normal University and Fudan University from 2015 to 2019 as the research objects,and sorts them through Survey research,Quantitative method,comparative analysis and other research methods,in order to find out the characteristics of selected topics of theses on MTCSOL of the three universities.This paper makes an investigation of the forms and contents of the theses from two aspects of synchronic and diachronic.The writing forms of the investigated papers are mainly divided into five categories: thematic research,investigation report,teaching design,case analysis and teaching experiment.The contents of the investigated papers are divided into five fields: Chinese teaching basis,Chinese teaching methods,teaching organization and classroom management,professional ethics and professional development,and Chinese culture and cross-cultural communication.Through investigation and research,it is found that the topic selection in the three schools is practical and applicable,and also focuses on material analysis and empirical research.However,there still exists some problems,such as concentrated writing forms,concentrated research fields and high similarity of topic selection,which need to be improved in both scientific and normative aspects.It is suggested that schools should strengthen the relationship between students’ teaching practice and thesis writing and pay more attention to cultivating students’ ability to find out problems and solve them in teaching practice.Improve the curriculum setting and optimize the training mode in combination with their own characteristics;Strengthen the management of dissertation quality;Increase the variety of practice forms and improve practice links.It is suggested that the mentor should strengthen the study of different research fields of TCSOL,and guide the students to find problems in learning and teaching practice,step out of the mentor’s own specialty,and look for topics they are really interested in.Students should strengthen the study of theoretical knowledge and improve their professional literacy;Pay more attention to academic development,broaden the field of research;Improve problem awareness and actively participate in practice;Combine their previous professional background,broaden the field of topic selection,to meet the requirements of application-oriented talent training.
