A Report On A Course Interpreting Project For Medical Training By Nanjing Shibuqiao Village Committee

Nanjing Shibuqiao Village has been a newly emerging working and residential center for university students,thanks to its favorable geographic location and sound business environment.Accordingly,residents begin to have higher expectation of community for its medical conditions,which gave birth to the present project.The reporter served the Nanjing Shibuqiao Village Committee as an interpreter for its medical training project from July to December in 2019.During the period between 6^thand 25^thof August,she worked as an interpreter for the course instructor,Kevin from Canada,who lectured on Cardiovascular System.In addition to this,the reporter also facilitated the interactions between the committee and the foreign expert.During the interpreting project,the reporter came into several obstacles and challenges.Based on careful analysis of the recordings from the whole project,this report presents two major difficulties she encountered:poor logical analysis and severe mental stress.Based on serious reflections and feedbacks from the parties involved,the reporter discusses the causes of the two problems and put forward plausible solutions.The solutions fall into two categories.Firstly,the reporter should enhance logical analysis ability by practicing long paragraphs interpreting,learn biligual knowledge about the cardiovascular system to enhance the logical analysis of the content,and prepare to use visual aids with anatomic pictures to strengthen the logical analysis of the source text.Secondly,the reporter should learn terminology concerning the cardiovascular system,make clear notes,and get familiar with both the speaker and the audiences.The problems and causes explored and the detailed methods and strategies presented in this report not only reflect the reporter’s introspection,but also hopefully provide a valuable reference for researchers and practitioners in the medical training interpreting industry.
